Revision Bunion Surgery: Hallux Varus Repair
This 55 year old female patient developed a condition called hallux varus after an overcorrected bunion. As you can see the big toe deviates away from the foot due to muscular imbalance, and also become contracted. This is a severe case and was present over 10 years before the patient decided to have corrective surgery. Dr. Blitz dramatically repaired the big toe, getting it back into proper position. Because of the skin and tendon contractures, Dr. Blitz performed a plastic surgery technique called a Z-plasty to rotate the skin. Additionally, Dr. Blitz fused the big toe joints as a necessary corrective measure for this severe problem. This patient can again fit into shoes.
