I am 25 years old and I currently live in Manhattan. I have always been self-conscious about my feet because I have extremely long toes. I recently had surgery to shorten the length of my toes. How long after this surgery will I be able to start running again?
Toe shortening procedures involve removing a small portion of the toe, usually at one of the joints of the digit. Healing after toe surgery takes about 6 weeks, and depending on the severity get my patients back into regular shoes by this time. In my Manhattan practice, I find that women have this surgery gain a sense of self confidence when is comes to the foot as they are more willing to wear shoes that they would not wear previously. As for being active, The toes can be stiff for a few months, so often I recommend progressing into running at the 6-8 week mark after surgery.
