Several months ago I started menopause hormone replacement therapy. I am 55 and live in the greater New York City area. I have developed a bunion and was wondering if this was a side effect of hormone replacement therapy.
Bunions occur for a variety of reasons, but hormone therapy has not been associated with them. However, women do tend to get bunions more than men. In our Manhattan practice, we find the ratio to be 3 women to every 1 man with bunions. We also find bunions tend to progress with age, so bunions may become more symptomatic as you get older.
