Dr. Blitz is known as an innovator as he made revolutionary changes to bunion surgery. He developed a provisionally patented medical implant for the treatment of bunions, which is commercialized and used nationwide. Dr. Blitz coined the term Bunionplasty℠ (plastic surgery for bunions). His published techniques and protocols on bunion surgery recovery have changed field as it allows patients to get back on their feet fast without the need for casting and crutches.
Dr. Blitz has an international reputation with dozens of publications related to Foot & Ankle Surgery within peer-reviewed medical journals, magazines, medical posters, blogs, and surgical textbooks. He has performed important clinical research and develop treatment protocols that are used by surgeons today. His research has won awards and he has lectured to his surgical colleagues. His practice is located on 56th Street & Park Avenue in midtown Manhattan. His private practice is affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, where he maintains surgical privileges. Alternatively, he may operate at a specialized ambulatory surgery center depending on a patients needs.
Prior to private practice in Manhattan, Dr. Blitz held an important position in urban healthcare in the role of Chief of Foot Surgery and Associate Chairman of Orthopaedics at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital. He developed an extremely successful Foot Surgery Program that treated over 13,000 patients per year and performed hundreds of operations on both simple and complex urban foot problems.
Prior to practicing in New York, Dr. Blitz was a Shareholder of Podiatric Physician within the Division of Orthopedics and Foot & Ankle Surgery in Kaiser Permanente Northern California (Santa Rosa Medical Center). He graduated Cum Laude from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine.
Dr. Blitz completed a residency focused on Elective & Reconstructive Foot & Ankle Surgery at the prestigious Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, which the program was affiliated with Harborview Medical Center. He was awarded an AO fellowship in Dresden Germany, focused on trauma and reconstructive techniques.
Dr. Blitz is a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He is Board Certified in Foot Surgery and Board Certified in Reconstructive Rearfoot & Ankle Surgery. Additionally, he is also a fellow of the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons.
